Country music icon Shania Twain has surprised fans by releasing a cover of Harry Styles’ hit song ‘Falling’. The track was released as part of her Spotify Sings session, which also features Twain’s covers of Howlin’ Wolf’s ‘Spoonful’ and the title track from her most recent album ‘Queen of Me’.
Speaking to Stereogum, Twain revealed her inspiration for covering the song: “I just fell in love with ‘Falling’. I love Harry Styles anyway and his version of the song really moved me and I wanted to try it on. It came out more emotional than I thought it would and I was very pleased – I can kind of hear my pain in it.”
The cover sees Twain add her signature country twang and a piano to the original track, while maintaining the emotional tone of Styles’ version. Twain also shared a behind-the-scenes look at the recording sessions for Spotify Singles on her social media.
This is not the first time that Twain and Styles have collaborated; the pair first teamed up during Styles’ headline set at Coachella in 2022, where Twain joined him on stage to perform her classic hits ‘Man! I Feel Like a Woman!’ and ‘You’re Still The One’. Twain has also expressed interest in collaborating with Styles in the studio in the future.
Twain’s cover of ‘Falling’ is a touching tribute to Styles’ original track and showcases the country legend’s versatility as an artist. Fans of both Twain and Styles will undoubtedly appreciate this unexpected collaboration.
