Sofia Kourtesis Honors Motherly Love in Vibrant New Single ‘Madres

Sofia Kourtesis, the Peruvian artist based in Berlin, has returned with a vibrant new single titled ‘Madres.’ The song marks Kourtesis’ first new release of 2023 and follows her collaboration with Manu Chao in January of last year.

‘Madres’ is an open-hearted and upbeat track, inspired by the mothers and LGBTQIA+ members who act as mothers in their communities. According to Kourtesis, the song is a tribute to her mother, grandmother, sisters, brothers, and all those who protect and love their families. She says, “Madres have no gender. Madres love to protect the ones you love. If you get lost, follow your mother’s voice, they will always bring you back.”

In addition to her family, Kourtesis dedicates the song to Peter Vajkoczy, a brain surgeon who has become a source of hope for her mother. Kourtesis admires Vajkoczy’s belief in miracles, love, and the strength to protect loved ones, and says, “Life goes by quickly. Life is fragile.”

Last year, Kourtesis played her debut UK headline shows at London’s Lafayette and Manchester’s YES, as well as an appearance at Glastonbury, where she received critical acclaim. NME praised her performance as “blissful” and “infectiously joyful” in a four-star review.

Kourtesis’ return with ‘Madres’ promises to be another infectious hit and is sure to leave listeners feeling uplifted and grateful for the mothers and mother figures in their lives.
